Panel Selection and Onboarding

Main Project Image

Turning a blood donation into free, personalized bloodwork

Goodlabs turns a blood donation into free, personalized bloodwork — donate, and the panel your doctor would normally order is covered. I led design across three connected surfaces: the logged-out web flow that takes someone from landing page to booked appointment, the credit system that governs which tests a donation pays for, and the mobile experience people use in the donor chair itself. The hard part was never the screens. It was reconciling a clinical catalogue of 60+ biomarkers with people who mostly don't know what a biomarker is, and doing it inside a funnel where every extra decision costs a booking. I worked each flow in rounds with the team, pressure-testing options against the real edge cases — unaffordable tests, spent allowances, partial selections — and specced the states engineering would need before any screen was final.

Getting to Booked in Five Steps

The web flow leads with a recommendation rather than a catalogue. Someone who hasn't had bloodwork in a while sees one panel — General Wellness, 43 biomarkers, free with today's donation — with the full test list one tap away and everything else behind "explore other options." Only people who want more depth reach the pre-built panels and the 60+ test search. The progression is deliberate: answer the common case immediately, and let curiosity rather than the interface pull people deeper.
