Mixmax: Building a High-Signal Design Hiring Engine
As Mixmax’s fractional design hiring manager, I built their design interview loop from the ground up—crafting a structured, repeatable, and high-signal process where none existed. Partnering closely with the founder and CPO, I led the definition of the ideal designer profile by mapping their ICP, assessing the strengths and gaps of the existing design and product teams, and translating that into a clear skills framework. I introduced new evaluation methods, improved collaboration across interviewers, and ensured the loop consistently surfaced candidates who could thrive in Mixmax’s environment. Along the way, I reviewed applicants myself, determining who advanced into the process, and conducted interviews alongside Mixmax team members to ensure quality, alignment, and rigor.
Strengthening the Team Through Structure & Strategic Insight
My work brought clarity and discipline to Mixmax’s hiring approach, enabling the company to identify and select designers with the right blend of craft, product intuition, and cross-functional collaboration. By aligning leadership on the designer ICP, creating a defined skills rubric, and shaping a thoughtful candidate experience, I helped Mixmax hire more confidently and efficiently. The interview loop and processes I established continue to serve as a scalable foundation for future hiring—bringing consistency, fairness, and strategic intent to every design search.
